1. Become a Reading Mentor
| |
What are you doing for lunch? Our Power Lunch program matches people from area corporations
with students in neighboring schools. As a reading mentor, you will meet with a student during lunchtime
once a week over the course of the school year to read and discuss books.
Many mentors have read with the same student from second grade through sixth grade, forming
enduring friendships and leaving lasting impressions. If you can’t make a weekly commitment,
you can be paired with another reader to alternate weeks.
If your corporation is already an Everybody Wins! CT sponsor, we can easily add you to the list
of reading mentors. If you’d like to get your corporation involved, we can help, too. Please
contact Donna Gordon, Executive Director.
|
2. Become a Corporate Sponsor
| |
We rely on corporations to provide financial support and to offer their human resources – their
employees – as reading mentors. The financial commitment is minimal and can offer tax advantages.
Corporate contributions support the administration of the Everybody Wins! Power
Lunch program, orientation
and feedback sessions for reading volunteers, recruitment and support materials, and special events.
Corporate sponsors are able to offer their employees a rewarding volunteer experience and build
employee morale while providing a valuable community service. This allows their organization
to take “ownership” of an employee volunteer program without any administrative burden.
It’s a simple, time-efficient way to be a good corporate citizen. To learn how your corporation
can become a sponsor, contact Donna Gordon, Executive Director.

3. Become a Board Member
| |
We are continually looking for new talent to serve on our Board of Directors. This governing
body draws on the expertise and experience of individuals members to continually improve and expand
the services we are able to bring to the community.
The expectations for board members are to:
 |
Be an active participant in at least four board meetings a year and serve on a subcommittee
|
 |
Make a financial contribution in terms of personal resources and help solicit funding for the organization
|
 |
Help identify and cultivate new corporate sponsors, major donors, board members, etc.
|
 |
Provide expertise in a functional field, e.g., accounting, legal, marketing, fundraising, etc. |
If you’d like to become involved as a board member, contact Donna Gordon, Executive Director. |
4. Become a Volunteer
| |
We can always use another pair of hands! Whether it’s to help organize a recognition ceremony
for the Readers as Leaders Program, plan a fundraiser, solicit donations for a silent auction,
or help with mailings, if you’ve got some time, we’d love to have you join in one
of our many projects. The time commitment might be small, but the rewards are great!
